Tres veces santo... Three times holy...

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”  Isaiah 6:3

If we could only see the Lord in all of His glory! Isaiah saw him. And what he saw changed him. It immediately made him feel profoundly unclean, unworthy. But after being cleansed and called to a ministry, he became profoundly grateful... and obedient…  and faithful. He never got over what he had seen.

I wish we were all like that…

Among other things, it would transform our Sundays. Nobody would miss corporate worship time. Everyone would arrive early. Absenteeism would be reduced to the physically incapacitated and their caretakers. We can go to the beach, go fishing, go for a drive, play sports or visit Grandma before… or after..

Worship time!

It would be louder. It wouldn't be a staged loudness, just an overabundance of joy. It would be genuine because our eyes are on the thrice holy God that we esteem and that we worship together.

The faces of some are a dead giveaway. You know they haven't been looking up. The message they project is, "bless me if you can…” It's not always the church's fault when the praise time feels dead.

We cannot improvise genuine worship on the fly. It is not possible to pull ourselves together in a few minutes after a week of dullness and spiritual laziness. If we have seen the Lord like Isaiah did, then we spend consistent time with Him during the week. We approach the weekend with a prayerful desire that our wonderful God be worshipped in a manner worthy of him.

No one is exempt from faithful, corporate worship. No one. Absenteeism and excuse-making are so contagious. When you miss, you are a stumbling block to others. Especially when you have been viewed as part of the backbone of your church. "Where is so and so?" the new ones ask. And in his heart, the pastor says, "I wish I knew. Please don't grow up to be like them."

How well did you worship God this week? Sunday, we shall see.
