Tesoro escondido... Hidden treasure...

(Mat 25:34)

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Mat 6:21)

Let's confess it: a big part of the stress, disappointment and pain that we live with is a reflection of a heart tied to earthly things. Eyes down = stress up; Eyes up = stress down.

"Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth." (Col 3:2)

A treasure of incalculable, everlasting value awaits us. But for many, a significant part of that treasure is still hidden and they will not see it.

An important part of the legacy that Christ left on earth before returning to heaven was the church. Some eternal rewards will depend on how we serve in the particular congregation in which the Holy Spirit has set us.

Paul writes from far away to the church in Corinth. (1Co 1:2)  In (1Co 3:16-17) he calls them collectively "the temple of God", but he does not include himself. In (1 Co 12:27), he calls them collectively "the body of Christ", but he does not include himself. Church is meant to be local and personal. There has never been a believer in Christ exempt from being a committed member of a particular body of believers. (1Co 12:18)

Getting church right means getting eternal rewards right, too.

Dissipated living does not start in taverns, casinos and discotheques. It starts in church. We do not sacrifice now to deposit to "the account that counts": the eternal one. We refuse to identify sins and life styles that will burn up like straw before the tribunal of Christ. We do not have clarity about how to store up eternal treasure. We do not discover everything that church could be for us because we invest so little in her. Hidden treasure.

My prayer:
  • that we might have clarity about how to store up eternal treasures.
  • and... that we start storing up eternal treasures!

"Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world."  Matthew 25:34

Yes...! As of July 5, 2020, my book is now available on Amazon.com.
It's a new book about an old problem: the cross and the crown… the Gospel and politics… do they mix? Should they mix?
If my words generate some reflection and healthy conversation—as in more light and less heat—I will be satisfied.
