Piensa en lo honesto... Think about honest things…

"todo lo honesto… en esto pensad.” (Filipenses 4:8)

A veces te lastiman.

“whatever is honorable…think about these things." (Philippians 4:8)

When we think about what we are thinking about, we realize that giving our mind free rein leads to nowhere good. This verse offers us avenues of thought that if pursued, will lead to better things, including that elusive "peace of God".

Honest and honorable overlap. We are to focus on whatever qualifies as evidence of credible conduct. That includes "honesty" as we use the word today.

In a recent movie, the drug lord warns the prospective transporters of his product : "If you say you will do a thing, you must do exactly that thing.”  In spite of the source, that seems to be a valid guideline in our search for honest things to meditate on.

No one is better at doing exactly what they say they will do than God.

"The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me"  Psalms 138:8

That means that he is honest. If we understand that, then nothing will ever catch us off guard. He is dreadfully, perfectly consistent. God is honest with everyone. He never metes out wrath in a fit of uncontrollable rage. His judgment is calculated… measured. It is frightful. But, he has warned us. His word is unalterable... no exceptions, no favoritism.

If you want to meditate on something honest, start with him. He will remain true to his word and true to you if you belong to him. You belong to him if you have personally opened your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ.

"Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things."  Hebrews 13:18

God's honesty is the gold standard. If we are more like him, we are less hypocritical... the breach between hearing and doing narrows. We are consistent in our spiritual lives. We do not lie or take advantage of others. If we say we will do a thing, we will do exactly that thing.

Isn't it a blessing to have someone in your life that is honest? At times they hurt you. They don't always tell you what you want to hear. But since they are honest, they always try to tell you what you need to know.

"Thank you, Lord, for your honesty. Thank you for the truly honest people in my life. Help me, Lord: when others seek honest things to meditate on, my desire is that sometimes they might think of me.”
