Piensa en la verdad… Think about the truth…

Aquí, somos mandados a pensar.

"whatever is true,…, think about these things."  Philippians 4:8

We are not asked to do anything that would fall outside of the parameters of God's enabling power.

Here, we are commanded to think. Avoiding it because we might not like what we discover, being negligent because it is hard work, substituting other people's conclusions for our own or improvising life according to what it throws at us… constitutes an erroneous pattern of behavior.

Paul starts his list with things that are true. Not all things are. Truth must be differentiated from falsehood. Both exist. Thinking about true things leads to the peace of God… false things will not.

When we think about true things, we inevitably deal with big picture stuff. I mean, we go back to square one, we assume nothing, all prejudices and preconceived notions aside… Is anything real? Who are we? Is there any one thing worth living for more than another? Is there a truth distinguishable from within the totality? Is there a God? If there is, then what is "this" about?

True things are absolute things. Truth is not in flux. To modify the way that we live or how we make decisions should mean that we correct wrongful thinking based on absolute truth, not because circumstances twist our arm.

True things have a savor of universality about them. They portray root causes, essential problems and basic solutions common to all humanity.

True things lead to freedom. "and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."  (John 8:32)

Down with fear and false submission! ...no more enslavement to tradition, arbitrary rules and illegitimate authority. Down with tribalism! All of the unholy distinctions that we invent between us and the rest of the world dissolve in our oneness with Christ.

If we are to think on true things, they have to be identifiable. The marvels of nature are helpful, but standing alone, they can lead to wrong conclusions for want of complete information.

True things come from God's Word. That is the body of truth. The more we are in it, the more we trust. The more we trust, the more we enjoy the peace of God.

Yes...! As of July 5, 2020, my book is now available on Amazon.com.
It's a new book about an old problem: the cross and the crown… the Gospel and politics… do they mix? Should they mix?
If my words generate some reflection and healthy conversation—as in more light and less heat—I will be satisfied.
