¿Es suficiente el teísmo?  Is theism enough?

(Juan 14:6)

Yes, I saw it. After months of advertising, it finally made it to Cancun. Many people here saw it, too. It generated a lot of discussion, which has been good.

It contains admirable portrayals of young adults standing up for their beliefs in spite of the high price they had to pay. The arguments were impressively well developed for the young man in his classroom debates, which are useful to strengthen a belief structure about God and reaffirm faith.

But I didn’t clap at the end.

The movie lets you assume that the predominant strands of professing Christendom are essentially on the same page; that virtually everyone is ok if they enthusiastically reaffirm: I BELIEVE... GOD'S NOT DEAD. Those viewers who need confronted with their empty religiosity get to walk away feeling clean... a stumbling block more than a blessing.

The word “theist” comes up in the film (in Spanish at least). A theist is a person who believes in the existence of God.

Be careful:
  • No, you cannot be a Christian without being a theist.
  • Yes, you can be a theist without being a Christian.
  • Even Satan is a theist! (James 2:19)

When we celebrate the Lord's Supper, we are reminded of precisely what opened the door to heaven for us: it was the sacrifice of Christ -His shed blood- that paid the price of our redemption.

Believing is not some pleasant sensation of, “Oh, I feel like God is really, really with me. If you believe, you will feel it, too!” Repenting and believing in Christ is less subjective. It is an acknowledgement of what the Bible says about us as sinners and an embrace of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. It is a transaction completed and a new life begun.

Do you believe in God? Excellent. Now don't forget to take the next step!

Jesus said: “Believe in God; believe also in me.” (John 14:1)

Jesus said: “No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

Yes...! As of July 5, 2020, my book is now available on Amazon.com.
It's a new book about an old problem: the cross and the crown… the Gospel and politics… do they mix? Should they mix?
If my words generate some reflection and healthy conversation—as in more light and less heat—I will be satisfied.
